Abstract

Current study presents a syntactic-semantic survey of spatial prepositions in English and Arabic concentrating on  employment of this type of prepositions in the 30th part of  Glorious Quran. Researcher started the study with investigating  syntactic and semantic aspects of spatial prepositions in both English and Arabic, making a comparison between the two languages to know to what extent they are similar or different concerning spatial prepositions. Then,  researcher analyzed  occurrences of spatial prepositions in  verses of the 30th part of  Glorious Quran  to achieve  purpose of the study. Comparison between English and Arabic’s spatial prepositions revealed that such  prepositions in Arabic tends to be more simple and specific in number and  meaning than  in English which involves a large number of prepositions used in a diversity of meaning.


     On the hand,  analysis of  Arabic spatial prepositions used in these suggested Glorious Quran verses displayed that such prepositions showed uneven occurrences; as well as occurrence of certain prepositions implying meanings different from their essential ones.
