Character Reproduction/ Structural Replication: A Socio-Cultural Approach in Nizar Abdel Sattar's Novel "Yuliana"

Despite the importance of character as a structural element in the novel, its study in this sense is not new. This study seeks to transcend this by approaching its sample from a sociocultural perspective, aiming to connect the text to its cultural and social dimensions and represent the value system that produced it, thus serving the goals of sustainable development to which art in general, and the novel in particular, are linked. The socio-cultural approach in Nizar Abdul Sattar's novel "Yuliana" is based on reading the text as a mirror reflecting the social and cultural transformations in Iraqi society, particularly in light of the political conflicts and turmoil that followed the wars. The novel highlights the interplay between religious and cultural identities through the character of "Yuliana," who represents the "other" within a tense and fragmented environment. She reveals the problematic nature of coexistence among the various components of society and demonstrates how the social structure influences the formation of individual consciousness and behavior. The novel also sheds light on the impact of violence and political circumstances on reshaping values and human relationships, as fear and anxiety become active elements in character development, reflecting a turbulent social reality.
