Through a semiotic analysis of places retrieved by memory, this study focuses on a comprehensive autobiographical framework, emphasizing that place is not presented as a static geographical space, but rather as a cultural and symbolic sign shaped by the interplay between lived experience and its reconstruction within memory and imagination. The research elucidates how places associated with childhood, education, and mobility are transformed into meaning-generating elements, revealing the transformations of the self and its relationship with society and history. Furthermore, it highlights how autobiographical narrative reshapes reality through recollection, thereby blurring the boundaries between what the author actually experienced and what memory has subsequently re-imagined and interpreted. The study concludes that place within the text serves an epistemological and identity-shaping function; it contributes to the construction of the self-image and the evocation of cultural and social transformations, thereby rendering the dialectic between the real and the imagined fundamental to understanding the narrative experience in the book.
